Just when we think there’s nothing more to be written about the utility of horsehair, somebody proves us wrong with a dazzling new product line. This past December, Nike and New York based Maharam Textiles unveiled a collaborative line of limited edition horsehair fabric athletic shoes, in two of Nike’s best known silhouettes - the Nike Blazer and Oregon Waffle. Complimenting Maharam’s classic weave patterns are black calfskin accents including the Nike swoosh. This synthesis of traditional materials and cutting edge design introduces sustainability into the manufacturing equation. Horsehair is a definitely a renewable resource.
