Is Your Billy Cook Saddle The Real Deal?
There’s only one authentic line of Billy Cook Saddles, and they’re currently made in Sulpher, Oklahoma. Look for the word “Maker” on the tie strap and fender badge. If it’s not there, you’ve got yourself a licensed copy from Simco/Longhorn. Prior to 1981 Mr. Billy Cook was making saddles in Greenville, Texas when he ran into trouble with the IRS. To cover legal expenses, he licensed his name and saddle mark to Simco/Longhorn with the stipulation they could not stamp the word “Maker” on their saddle reproductions. Fast forward a few years and Billy sets up shop again in Sulpher, Oklahoma. The Simco/Longhorn license agreement is still in effect, but Billy retains the right to stamp his saddles with the word “Maker.” Today, only licensed dealers carry authentic Billy Cook, Maker U.S.A Genuine, Sulpher, OK brand saddles. These saddles retain all of the charm, comfort, and fit of Billy’s pre-1981 models in a wide variety of styles and sizes. Whether you’re in the market for a barrel racer or general work saddle, a Billy Cook original will do you proud.
